A Congolese national, identified as Abott Anthony, has been charged at the Milimani Law Courts following his arrest in the Ngara area for possessing counterfeit currency amounting to 3,600 USD.
The charges were presented before Magistrate Dolphina Alego, where Anthony pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
The incident reportedly took place on August 9, 2025, at the Travelers Guest House located in the Ngara estate within Starehe Sub County, Nairobi County.
He is accused of having the forged currency in his possession without any lawful justification, fully aware that the bills were counterfeit. In addition to the charges related to the counterfeit currency, Anthony faces a second count concerning his immigration status in Kenya.
The prosecution alleges that on the same date and at the same location, he was found unlawfully present in the country, violating the Immigration Act. As a Congolese national, he lacked the necessary pass or permit that would legally authorize his stay in Kenya, which further complicates his legal situation.
Following the court proceedings, Anthony was granted bail, set at 1 million Kenyan shillings or an alternative cash bail of 500,000 shillings. This decision allows him to remain free while awaiting further legal proceedings.
The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding immigration and counterfeit currency issues within the region, drawing attention to the need for stringent enforcement of laws to prevent such offenses.
